Bitcoin tested $84,800 and failed. It went up with the US earnings rally and came down with Asia and oil. Asian stocks and US futures slipped, and Brent climbed above $111 after Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia and reports of renewed US and Israeli strike plans for Iran. Price has since dropped more than $2,000 and is trading near $82,500.

Here is why the link matters. When oil stays near $110, fuel and shipping costs push prices up everywhere, so inflation stays high. That keeps the Fed from easing and keeps a December hike on the table. Bonds then pay more, and when safe assets pay more, investors hold less of the risky ones. Bitcoin sits at the risky end, so it feels that first. That link has explained a lot of this month’s moves, but not all of them. On October 15, yields fell after the hot prints and Bitcoin held $80,000 anyway. Demand did show up, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs taking in about $525 million on Wednesday, the third straight day of inflows, and price still turned.

Oil is neither blocked nor back to normal. Hormuz flows swing week to week. The figure for the seven days to October 13 was about 11.6 million barrels a day, roughly 68% of the pre-war baseline, and Bloomberg reports exports accelerating this week. A tanker was hit in the strait on Wednesday. The reports say the strike plans are for after the midterms, and Trump has repeatedly vetoed a return to major combat, so it stays a risk until a decision is made.

The levels are simple. The $84,000 to $84,800 zone has now stopped price repeatedly this month, with $87,300 above it. The $80,000 area remains the floor that has held through prior tests.

Until oil gives way, buyers keep running into the same wall between $84,000 and $84,800. The next major catalyst is the FOMC on October 28. A hawkish tone that keeps another hike live would likely pressure the lower end of the range. A softer tone would be a clearer path for another test of that zone. A sustained drop in oil below $100 or a clear recovery in Hormuz flows would change the view.
