The auction cleared at 5.300%, the highest yield since November 2000, and it drew real demand. The 10-year traded up near 5.36%, then gave some of it back and finished around 5.28%.
Bitcoin was already falling from the mid-$85ks before that result, and it kept falling after, into the low $82ks. If the auction were the trigger, the ease should have shown up in the price. It did not.
That does not mean the bond story is wrong. It means it is not the whole story. Real yields are near 3%, the dollar is firm, and the Fed is still leaning toward another hike. That is the pressure that has been sitting on risk assets for weeks. Yesterday, it was not the trigger.
Japan belongs in the background. The yen rallied, the carry trade is unwinding ahead of an expected Bank of Japan hike, and Japanese investors have been selling foreign bonds for a third straight week. That is real. It is also one seller. Foreign demand still showed up at the auction.
On scarcity: exchange balances are not at a seven-month low. Monday saw a net outflow of about 24,073 BTC, the largest in seven months. That is one day of outflow, not a structural low. Outflows can be custody, OTC, or sellers who already sold. I am not resolving it.
Scale matters. Bitcoin is already about a third below the October 2025 high near $126,000. This is a slide inside a larger drawdown, after a failed push at $87,000, not the start of a new one. One bond day explains less than the headline implies.
What I am watching
Whether the 10-year holds near 5.28% or breaks higher, and whether Bitcoin can get back through the mid-$85ks or keeps living under the recent low near $82,780. Those two answers tell me more than any forecast.
As of this morning, Bitcoin is around $83k.
